All Yorkshire Holidays Great And Small

I'm showing my age, but anyone who grew up in Britain in the 1980s will probably remember this theme tune if they watched Sunday night TV.

All Creatures Great and Small - the story of a Scottish vet who moves to the Yorkshire Dales in the 1930s - ran on the BBC from 1978 to 1990. It was based on the wildly successful series of books by James Wright, better known by his pen name, James Herriot.

Starting 9pm tonight, the series is back, with a brand new cast but transferred to Channel 5.

All this just gives me a shameless opportunity to plug the Dales of my beloved home county of North Yorkshire and share a few photos and videos to whet your appetite if ever you want to visit.

Unlike the original BBC series, which was filmed in the northern part of the Dales, this new series has been filmed mostly in and around Grassington, where the Devonshire doubled up as James Herriot's local pub, the Drovers.

If you want to find out more about other filming locations there's a ton of information on the website of Dales Discoveries.
